There are multiple ways to reach Suryalanka. Below is the route taken by us:

Total Distance from Hyderabad
Approx. 380 kms. By road From Hyderabad
The bookings can be made online from APTDC site for Haritha Beach Resort which is operated by AP Tourism. The rates are 2500/= per night for sea-facing cottages.
It took us close to 7.5 hours after we headed out from Hyderabad at 7:30 a.m. in a Tempo Traveler. The roads were good which gave a smooth drive. There is four lane road till Guntur with few diversions in between Vijayawada and Guntur due to road work in progress. We stopped for half an hour midway to have breakfast which we had carried along. There are multiple good restaurants/coffee joints in between Hyderabad to Vijayawada. You can also find an Udupi hotel on the way where you can freshen up and have tea/breakfast.
We reached the resort at around 3 p.m. The resort was decent enough and located right on the beach. The rooms were clean with basic amenities. There are 2 types of room: One is sea facing and the other type is behind these cottages. The property has a sit-out area, a restaurant and ample open space.
Rooms were provided with 2 soap chips, 2 shampoo sachets and only one towel. The A.C took some time to cool the room. T.V had both Telugu and Hindi channels. Room service is available. Bathrooms have hot water facility.
After relaxing for an hour we all headed to the beach. It was a crowded public beach with trash all around. Same beach is used by fishermen’s which makes it even more crowded. The beach stretch was small as south side is barricaded off to the public as an Indian Air force restricted area. The beach does not have toilets. Vehicle is allowed right till the beach, so if you have kids along you will have to be vigilant. We ignored these set-backs and went into the water. The waves were awesome. Enjoying the strong waves was the best part of this trip.
In the evening we ordered dinner as part of room service. The staff takes some time to understand the order. You might have to repeat the order many times. It’s also better to order everything in one go as the room service is bit slow. Food is very spicy there so you will have to give special instruction to prepare the food without chilies. Food is available at reasonable rate. You will have to specifically ask for bottler water. Poker after dinner added to the fun.
We woke up early next day to watch sun-rise but unfortunately cloudy sky spoilt our plan. We got to see fishermen wrapping up their night’s job and filtering out the fishes off the net. It was something new to watch.
Breakfast was ordered in the room. Afternoon was lazy and we just lingered around and stayed in the room after lunch. Evening was spent in the waters again. At night we had asked the resort to arrange a bonfire for us which they did. The cool breeze, waves sound, fire, music and some booze added to the fun. We started back for Hyderabad at 10:30 p.m. after dinner.
- Carry breakfast as you will not get many options on the way
- Carry some snacks for the stay at resort as the food they provide is very spicy. Even after giving them instruction to not add spices there is no guarantee that you will find them as per your taste buds. This will also be used if you are boozing.
- Carry extra towels as they provide only one towel during the stay
- Carry toiletries
- Carry bathroom slippers
- Since the beach is public and very crowded with local people you might not be able to wear your short swimming costume. So carry something which covers more.
- You should carry a laptop with speakers if you want to enjoy some music during bonfire
- Make the booking in advance for this resort and ask for sea facing cottage.
